Inspire

norway-photography-32__880You’re in every new song I hear

The whisper of mist that clings to my eyelashes

Every ocean that spreads its aquiline arms in offering

And the lights that flash across the midnight shadow

You are the force field that protects me –

Against the world.

Abandon

It was the remnants of a chilly winter
on the cusp of spring,
the freighter ship glowed
a lonely rusty red.
I weaved my arm through yours
seeking warmth from coat sleeves
as it sunk into a darkness
of forbidden murky greens.
Benevolent acknowledgment of
the spirits of the ocean,
a petrified creature;
as the shrill cry of seagulls
wrestled the breath of the wind.

~ February ~

Northumberland, England

Rocks tumble over one another
like greasy sun soaked crabs.
Tender lapping waves
slip over their forms;
a distant echo
and through dying embers
clouds drag pale light
entombed in a blanket of mist.

This is part of a “Snapshots of a Year” series I am doing, each month I will write landscape-inspired poetry taken specifically from my 2015 calendar. Feel free to leave a comment below 🙂

sunlight in the trees

P1030346

The branches hang trophies of golden light,
a dusky orange, bled from the seams
streaked like canon smoke

gnarled tree limbs
wave forth from sandy graves
supporting the weight of the sky

the remembrance,
of a misty blue-grey worth holding.

Lost

scotland-landscape-photography-1You walk among
the haggard battle scars
of mountainous peaks;
of midnight forests
with black cotton stitches
like crows feet in shadow
and ragged crags that weave-
through the wilderness
in undulating waves
of white thread.

One Day

green-forest-red-leaves-wideThey weave fingers of evergreen,
a canopy to shelter
from the bitterness and cold.
Guardians of nature they close their ranks
as soldiers of symmetry;
the sharpness of colour, blinds me
through the camera lense
unfiltered-
capsules of red as paint dripping
floods the forest
in bursts of joyous stain.

The Forgotten

scotland-landscape-photography-9Purple jewels glow on the hillside,
cat eyes in the dark
guiding headstrong travellers on
-to the ruins by the sea.

The ghosts that roam the valley
are but shells of times long past
yet their spirits linger still
-to the ruins by the sea.

As the stormy skies rumble and
the tumultuous waves roll,
they mourn the forgotten;
the ruins by the sea.

Dance of the Orchid

20131223_132152She bobs on a sprightly stem,
pirouetting creature
under shelter of a bitter storm.
Mindful of her sisters’ envy,
she joins the ranks with pride-
an army of maidens
basking in rays of gold.

Canvas

The tent sways softly
in summer’s exhaled breath,
emblems of crests twinkling
white and mauve,
budding roses gently dance
weaving a canvas of brazen blue.
A ripple, brilliant sapphire mirroring
the tranquil lily pads,
dabbed from a painter’s jug.
Cat-tails trail loose their limbs
caressing its translucent glass,
bows pulled taunt
as archers release kindred arrows
in a flash of crimson light.
